The chain of infection? pg. 531-535 - ANSWER 1. Infectious Agent- Would be like bacteria, a virus, or something of that nature. MRSA can survive for at least 24 hours on an object. 2. Reservoir- The reservoir for growth and multiplication of microorganisms is the natural habitat of the organism. Ex: other people, animals, soil, food, water, milk, and inanimate object 3. Portal of Exit- The point of escape for the organism from the reservoir. Ex: Respiratory, GI, GU, breaks in skin, blood, and tissue. 4. Modes/Means of Transmission- Contact, direct, indirect, airborne, or droplet. direct; through touching, kissing, sex indirect; touching an contaminated instrument airborne; coughs, sneezes, etc droplet; similar to airborne but particles are larger. Medical asepsis- or clean technique, involves procedures that reduce the number and transfer of pathogens. Ex: hand washing, hand sanitizer 2.
