Handwashing - answer1. Open the tap slowly and check the water temperature.
2. Wet both wrists, aiming them down to dry (DO NOT SHAKE THE WATER RESIDUE)
3. Apply soap
4. Clean wrists 3 times, the back of the hand, in between the fingers and thumbs,
scratch palms with nails to get residue underneath and finish off with cleaning
underneath the nails for 20 seconds.
5. Rinse ONE WRIST AT A TIME
6. Drop down, don't shake to dry
7. Pat dry then dispose paper towel in the trash can.
8. Grab a dry napkin to turn off the water faucet
Indirect care - answer1.) Greet resident, address by name, and introduce self
2.) Provide explanations to residents about care before beginning and during care
3.) Ask resident about preferences during care
4.) Use standard precautions and infection control measures when providing care
5.) Ask resident about comfort or needs during care or before care completed
6.) Promote residents rights and residents safety during care
Ambulate the resident using transfer/gait belt - answer1. Knock, introduce yourself and
what you are doing
2. Put the bed in lowest position, wheels-locked
3. Help the patient sit up on the count of 1..2..3.
4. DON'T FORGET TO PUT THE SHOES ON THE THE PATIENT
5. Get the belt, ask the resident to raise their hands to apply the belt (Ask the resident if
it's too tight OR put 2 fingers in between the belt to see how much space there is in
between.
6. Toe to toe, Knee to knee on the count of 3 we stand. 1..2..3..
7. Once the patient is up check and ask them if they're ok.
8. Move hands to the back of the belt and stand behind the patient holding one hand on
the belt and one on the patients shoulder
9. Ambulate the patient then bring them back to the bed, once you get to the bed ask
the patient if they can feel the bed. Once they have felt the bed sit down on the count of

10. Take the belt off the patient and help lay them back down. Cover them and return
the belt where it was from
11. Once you are done give the patient their call light
