1900s PTSD was a common occurrence for those who served in the war; today people are faced

with a multitude of hardships ranging from abuse victims, to substance reliance issues, and

financial issues (Morrissey & Goldman., 1986). Consistent and impactful negative life

occurrences can affect a person’s quality of life, causing educational interruptions stemming

from an early age, adolescence, and even into adulthood. Unfortunately, many treatment options

for this mental health disorder are favored with the use of westernized medication, also known

as, SSRI and MAOI’s, replacing or adjusting the serotonin intake and distribution of the brain of

the suffering victim. In newer studies, the use of meditation and healthier forms of natural

healing is providing PTSD patients with better treatment results and options.

Description of Population

I am choosing to focus on PTSD specifically within all age ranges, given the medicinal changes

over the decades of continued medical research with natural remedies. I am also choosing this

population because all ages can be exposed to negative life impacts which alter their nervous

system. Key challenges for younger age groups could be unhealthy living conditions, witnesses

to abuse, split families, and cognitive downfalls during growth channels. Adolescence is hard to

get through for everyone but for some, certain experiences can leave substantial markings;

hormone changes, puberty, high-school complications, social downfalls, chosen or forced home

lives, or even early substance abuse. Lastly, adulthood comes with considerable financial
