Assimilation - the process by which individuals from one cultural group merge with,
or blend into, a second group
Ethnocentrism - the belief that one's own culture is superior to that of another
while using one's own cultural values as the criteria by which to judge other
cultures

*Principles of Ethics - Nursing practice requires ethical decision making on a consistent
basis. Nurses make judgments about patients’ rights and benefits in many situations.
Beneficence - doing good. Nurses demonstrate beneficence by acting on behalf of others
and placing a priority on the needs of others rather than on personal thoughts and
feelings.
Nonmaleficence - do no harm. Requires only the avoidance of harm
Respect for Autonomy - patient who makes independence health care decision,
include patients in the process, develop care plans with realistic goals and
interventions
Veracity - honesty, unrestricted communication among individuals demonstrates
respect for others and builds trust
Justice - act fairly and equitably, all people treated impartially, all should have
health care regardless of ability to pay, organ donation is challenging
Accountability - willingness to accept responsibility for one’s actions, provides safe
patient care and address potential problems
-Nurses who exhibit accountability are honest, accept the consequences of their
actions, and initiate best nursing practices based on current evidence-based
research.
