GIS EXAM LATEST UPDATED 2024-2025

GIS (geographic information system) software allows you to visualize the
geographic elements of a collection of data.

ESRI - ANSWER is Environmental Systems Research Institute, a creator and
provider of GIS.

How does computer hardware performance change? ANSWER: Performance
doubles every 18 months.

ArcReader - ANSWER enables users to browse and query maps created with
other ArcGIS products.

ArcGIS is the moniker used by ESRI to refer to its portfolio of GIS software
products.

ESRI designed Desktop ArcGIS, a single-user tool that interprets and displays
geographic analytical data.

Three styles of architecture - capability tiers for ArcGIS for Desktop -
ANSWER: Basic

- Standard.

- Advanced.

ArcGIS for Desktop Basic, formerly known as ArcView, enables users to
explore spatial data, generate layered maps, and do basic spatial analysis.

,ArcGIS for Desktop Standard - ANSWER, formerly known as ArcEditor,
which, in addition to the capability of ArcView, contains more complex tools
for manipulating shapefiles and geodatabase

ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced, formerly known as ArcInfo, enables data
management, editing, and analysis.

ArcGIS Pro - ANSWER is a new architecture and capability announced in
2015. It is more robust than ArcGIS and integrated to Microsoft Office, but is
not a significant upgrade.

ArcMap - ANSWER is part of Esri's desktop GIS software suite, which allows
you to view, modify, and query geospatial data as well as generate maps.

ArcCatalog - ANSWER is a data management tool that allows users to view
datasets and files on their computer, database, or other sources. Allows users to
display data on a map.

ArcToolbox - ANSWER provides geoprocessing, data conversion, and analysis
tools and shares much of ArcInfo's features.

ArcAdministrator - ANSWER's primary goal is to get the licensing properly
matched so you can use ArcGIS.

ArcGlobe - ANSWER comparable to Google globe

ArcScene - ANSWER is the three-dimensional component of ArcGIS

, Extensions - ANSWER There are software extensions that can be installed to
ArcGIs for Desktop to provide more functionality.

.mxd - ANSWER is a file extension for a map document in ArcMap that is
exclusively useable within ArcMaps. It can contain map description, map
layout, and embedded objects saved in the map.

.mxd vs..mpk - ANSWER.mxd is smaller because it does not contain the data in
the file; instead, it contains pointers to the actual data and symbol sets, which
need the other data files on your computer. .mpk is a portable file that contains
the.mxd file and any relevant GIS data from the document, prepared using a
map package (only for ArcMap 10.0 and higher).

Data Formats (2): Answer - Vector

– Raster

Vector is a coordinate-based data model that depicts geographic characteristics
like points, lines, and polygons. Lines and polygons have ordered lists of
vertices (x,y), whereas points have their own coordinate pairs.

Vector features, such as points (water wells), lines (rivers - the last point cannot
be where the first point is), and polygons (lakes - the last point is where the first
point is), typically include properties that describe them.

Raster - ANSWER A spatial data model that represents space as an array of
equally sized cells (pixels) arranged in rows and columns and made up of one or
more bands. Each raster cell has an attribute value and location coordinates.
