TRANSPORT ACROSS THE
CELL
,• But before this we must know the different types of
channels or proteins present in cell membrane.
A. Integral proteins
B. Peripheral proteins
,A. INTEGRAL PROTEINS
• Transmembrane proteins that spans the entire lipid bilayer &
protrude into both the cytoplasm & ECF
• (2 types)
1. CHANNEL PROTEINS
• Protrude all the way through cell membrane.
• Provides channel or pores through which water molecules &
water soluble substances especially IONS can diffuse between
ECF & ICF.
• Further 2 types
i. Voltage gated channels (e.g. voltage gated Na & K channels),
means open or closed during action potential
ii. Leaky channels
