• Traction weights on the floor: Move the patient up in bed.
• Cholecystitis and cholelithiasis diet: Avoid fatty and high-protein foods,
such as egg yolks.
• ACE inhibitor for blood pressure: Discontinue the medication if the
patient develops a cough.
• Tuberculosis medication: Pyrazinamide (not pyramidazine).
• When accessing a port: Palpate the site first.
• Nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy: Administer ondansetron.
• Acute kidney failure due to gunshot wound: Administer IV bolus of 500
mL.
• Septicemia: Administer antibiotics first.
• Mantoux skin test (for TB): A chest X-ray will be needed if the test is
positive.
• Angina and myocardial infarction: Assess serum cardiac markers.
• Hyperthyroidism: Always check respiratory function first (monitor for
stridor).
• Orchiectomy: Side effects may include hot flashes, weight gain,
osteoporosis, and loss of sexual interest.
• Ileostomy: Stools will be loose.
• Tracheostomy care: Clean the cannula with a 50/50 solution of hydrogen
peroxide and sterile water.
• Catheter care: Tape the catheter to the inner leg.
