How can I help you today? (good) I’ve been having trouble with swallowing. Food gets stuck sometimes
and it’s really uncomfortable.

Do you have any other symptoms we should discuss? (good) Just the food sticking is my main problem

When did your swallowing problems start? (good) I think the first time it happened was about 6 months
ago or so.

What are the events surrounding the start of your problem swallowing? (good) Back when it first
started? Nothing unusual. I remember we were having a holiday dinner. I swallowed a piece of turkey
breast and a couple of seconds later I realized it didn’t go down all the way. I got this pressure in my
chest, like fullness, and it was really uncomfortable. Pretty much happens the same way every time.

Does anything make your problem swallowing better or worse? (good) I’ve noticed if I really chew my
food well, and take a drink of liquid before I swallow, I don’t seem to have any problem. The worst is
when I don’t chew well, and especially if the food is dry, like bread. Oh, yeah, and pizza crust; that’s
tough.

Are your symptoms relieved by repeated swallows? (good) Yes, but only if I drink some water or other
liquid. Otherwise the food just seems to stick there.

Do you have any pain or other symptoms associated with your problems swallowing? (good) Well, yeah,
I’d say it’s painful. Right under my breast bone. It’s like a pressure pain. I’m not sure what other
symptoms you want to know about.

Do you have more difficulty swallowing solids or liquids? (good) Only solids. I have no problems with
liquids. In fact, liquids help food go down.

Do you have difficulty swallowing pieces of meat? (good) Yes, exactly! I have to be very careful to chew
meat well, and it’s best if I eat it with a sip of wine or water.

How severe is your swallowing problem? (good) It’s bad when it happens. But when I’m clogged like
that, it’s truly horrible.

Does your difficulty swallowing keep you from sleeping? no

Have you had swallowing problems like this before? (good) No, never had any problems with eating.

How quickly does your swallowing problem come on? (good) Oh its sudden. One second everything’s
fine, the next the food gets stuck and im really uncomfortable.
