Nurs-fpx 6218 Assessment 1

, Comprehensive Maternal Care

Enhancing continuity of care from antenatal through postnatal period is critical for

realizing substantial benefits in maternal and newborn health. Through routine surveillance and

timely treatment during prenatal care, healthcare facilities strive to prevent pregnancy

complications including gestational diabetes, hypertension, and preterm labor. Early detection

and intervention in these complications not only improves maternal health but also leads to safer

births (Peahl et al., 2020). In addition, improving postnatal care interventions is assumed to

improve maternal outcomes in terms of physical restoration, psychosocial wellbeing, and

successful breastfeeding. Optimal postnatal care may help to decrease such issues associated

with childbirth and prevent postnatal depression to enhance the recovery rate among mothers and

their general well-being (WHO, 2022).

Education and engagement are two crucial components of improving maternity care

services. Education encourages expectant mothers to make informed decisions regarding

nutrition during pregnancy, birth processes, baby care, and birth control. Maternal involvement

in decision making regarding health can translate to healthier behaviour and thus improved

future health of both the mother and the child (Vedam et al., 20219).

The use of telehealth solutions when it comes to prenatal to postnatal care also increases

access to healthcare services especially to pregnant women in the remote or underprivileged

areas. Such telehealth consultations allow for appointments, health check-ups, timely

consultations, support from healthcare practitioners, and more without the limitations imposed

by distance. This approach also benefits the continuity of care, and convenience to the mothers in

ensuring that they will be guided and supported all throughout their maternity (Fazal et al.,

2020).
