Semester 2 2024
Green Valley High School is located in a rural area with
limited access to educational resources and technology.
The student body is diverse, with varying levels of
academic achievement and socioeconomic backgrounds.
The school has faced challenges in engaging students
and fostering a sense of community due to these
disparities. Mr. Nkosi, a veteran teacher with a passion for
collaborative learning, noticed that students often
struggled with individual assignments and lacked
motivation. He believed that creating a strong learning
community within the school could address these issues
and enhance the overall learning experience. QUESTIONS
If you were Mr Nkosi what type of “learning community”
strategies would you propose at Green Valley High School
to assist students with the challenges that they are facing
at this school? (8 marks) What positive impact would the
learning community have on students? (6 marks) Who are
the people that you would involve and why? (6 marks)
What challenges do you anticipate Mr Nkosi would
encounter when creating the “learning community”?
What can he do to resolve those challenges? (10 marks)
1. Strategies for Creating a Learning Community (8 marks):

If I were Mr. Nkosi, I would propose the following strategies to create a learning community at
Green Valley High School:

 Peer Mentoring Programs: Establish a peer mentoring system where higher-achieving
students or those with strengths in certain subjects assist their peers who may be
struggling. This would foster collaboration, build relationships, and allow students to
learn from each other.
 Project-Based Learning (PBL): Implement PBL to encourage students to work in
groups on real-world problems. This approach would not only engage students but also
help them develop critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
