The mediaton of learning process is the process of facilitatng learning whereby a learner is
helped to reconstruct their own body of knowledge to incorporate a new piece of knowledge,
skill from the public body of knowledge. It is an actve process and facilitators encourage this
cognitve change by providing stmulatng actvites that reflect the real world e periences.
Learning happens through e perience and is personal, so it’s not possible for an educator to
transfer knowledge from their mind to the learners. However, social learning and social
negotaton are part of the mediaton of learning process.


5. Expdain howe group weork can beneft a mudticudturad cdassroom in the post democratic
South African or any other context (10)

Group work allows learners to take responsibility for their own learning. Because they are not
relying on the educator, and sometmes are relied upon by other learners, they take charge of
their own learning. This is a vital part of becoming a lifelong learner and an actve partsan in the
democratc society. Learners also have to work with other people who may be diferent from
themselves. This helps to show them that the diferences between them and other people are
valuable and help us solve problems (two heads are beter than one). Learners have to learn to
work with other people because working with other people is part of life. Learners also have to
learn to respect other people, and the diferences, and this social skill can be developed through
group work. Group work also teaches other life skills, such as leadership, communicaton and
planning which are vital to any student. Group work is an actve process, whereby learners are
actvely involved in their own learning and thus beneft from the learning e perience more.
