Non-stress test (NST) - -ultra sound record movement, doppler measures fetal HR, assess fetal
well being
-2 or more acceleration with 15bpm lasting 15 seconds for 20 min with return to baseline
-done after 28 wks
Trichomoniasis - asymptomatic
s/s in women-green & smelly vaginal discharge, vulvar itch
s/s in men-inflammation of epididymis, prostate, urethra
no etoh with meds
barrier methods of birth control - condoms, diaphragm, cervical cap, vaginal sponge
emergency contraception - plan b (progestin only pill) take within 72hrs of sex
copper IUD placement within 7 days of sex
Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) - the most effective reversible birth control

nexplanon (implant)
(if on IUD & wants to conceive, take out and have 1 normal period)
hormonal contraception - combo pill
transdermal patch
nuvaring
mini pill
depo-provera shot
(if on pill and wants to conceive, stop & have 2-3 normal periods first)

hx of embolism
liver disease
presence of estrogen dependent carcinomas
undiagnosed uterine bleeding
5 Ps of sexual history - partners
prevention of preggo
protection from stis
practice (anal/oral?)
past hx of stis
chlamydia - asymptomatic
can cause infertility & ectopic pregnancy
can cause neonate blindness/pneumonia
genital herpes - small painful blisters that appear 2-14 days after sex
latent phase, reactivates with stress/illness
birth control methods - fertility awareness, situational, barrier methods, spermicide, hormonal
methods, sterilization, long acting reversible contraception (larc), emergency contraception
HPV - asymptomatic or genital warts
cancers linked to
women at greater risk (more mucous membranes)
vaccine
, gonorrhea ("the clap") - causes inflammation of prostate/urethra/blood infections, PID, arthritis,
and infertility
s/s women-abcess, pain, ^vaginal discharge, dysuria/^
s/s in men-weird penile discharge, dysuria
can be passed to neonate during vaginal delivery
screening at 1st visit & 36wks
can present like strep throat (from oral)
neonate effects-blindness, lethal blood infections, joint infection
syphilis - 4 stages
primary (2-3wks)-chancre(sore), painless & very contagious
secondary (2-8wks)-rash on body, sores in mouth, flu like
latent (1yr-lifetime)- still contagious
tertiary - bengin latent, cns/cardio damage
(treatment can cause jarisch herxheimer reaction-toxins released from destruction of cells)
Zika Virus Symptoms - can cause microcephaly (small head)
ovulation and fertilization - ovum good for 3-6 days
takes 5-8 for fertilized egg to make it to uterus for implantation
fertilization in DISTAL part of fallopian tube
amniotic fluid - mom starts baby off with some
rest is made by fetus using its kidney function (sterile water, not pee)
umbilical cord - 2 arteries & 1 vein
arteries carry deo2 blood from baby to mom
veins carry o2 blood from mom to baby
