Ballast - A device used with a discharge lamp to provide the necessary circuit conditions
(voltage, current, and waveform) to start and operate the lamp.

Luminaires - A complete lighting unit consisting of: lamps, ballast (if applicable), as well
as parts designed to: distribute light, position the lamp, protect the lamp, and connect
the lamp to the power supply.
