Are you satisfied at the end of the day? Tell me about it. - Yes. I am satisfied knowing that I did my best, and I count every day as another day closer to meet my personal and professional goals. Can you tell me about a time when you took control of a group? - In college, we had a huge final project for my Research Methods class. It required going through a lot of data from different clinical studies, so I took the lead and delegated the research load and assigned sections of the project to each student, as well as created deadlines to give us room to review and polish our work as team. We ended up having the overall best project score out of every class and got to present our research to Institutional Review Board of our University. Do you have long days? Tell me about it. - In my current job, our work flow is basically that you can't go home until all the work is done, however long that takes. There are days where I work 12-13 hours in a row, then still have to find time to meet my fitness and health goals. But I find on those long days, I am most proud of myself and my ability to push my limits. Give an example of a time when you had to deal with a conflicting situation. What was it and what did you do? - If an instrument container is in the room with a patient, it is considered contaminated and has to go down to cart wash. My coworker, to save time, was taking the containers and bringing them back to SPD without them being properly sanitized. When I realized this situation, I immediately confronted my coworker who argued that we needed the containers for turn over and we didn't have time to wait for them to be washed. I showed my coworker where we could find extra containers in the event of a rapid turnover, and told him that cutting corner in this way was unacceptable behavior and could endanger patient health. He apologized and agreed. How closely do you think people should be supervised? - I think people should be given clear objectives and you should trust your hiring decisions and allow your people to use their talents, and micromanaging can stifle them. A good manager makes themself a useful tool to help a team member meet those objectives. When they feel the freedom to come to you with obstacles, they most often will not need to be closely supervised. How do you deal with conflict or opposition? - I take an analytical approach to conflict or opposition by remembering what I am trying to achieve. I tackle the problem by understanding where the opposition is coming from and why, then I strategize the best way to overcome it.How do you feel when someone doubts what you say? - My reputation and my word is extremely important to me, so when someone doubts what I say, I feel compelled to make an extra effort to address every concern they may have about me or what I am saying. How do you feel when you are the unpopular voice in the group? - I love being in harmony with a group, but I am not afraid to stand up for my values and beliefs even if that makes me the unpopular voice. If you disagree with your supervisor regarding a policy implemented, what will be your response? - Raise my concerns to my supervisor immediately, in a professional manner.
