While traditional storytelling methods hold value, they may not fully captivate the interest
of today's digitally inclined learners. This urgency presents an opportunity to explore how
interactive storytelling can be leveraged to enhance reading comprehension among
young learners.
In South Africa, schools face a unique set of challenges and opportunities. Institutions
such as Curro Waterfall and Vuleka SSB High School have implemented technological
innovations to support student learning, demonstrating a commitment to utilizing
technology to enhance learning outcomes. This unique context presents an ideal setting
to explore the use of interactive storytelling to enhance reading comprehension among
young learners.
Research indicates that early literacy experiences significantly influence a child's
cognitive and language development. A Department of Basic Education study showed that
students exposed to digital learning tools in their early years displayed improved literacy
rates compared to those who relied solely on traditional methods. This underscores the
relevance of exploring interactive storytelling to bolster reading comprehension in Grade
R students.
This research aims to provide insights into more effective teaching strategies that align
with modern educational needs and technological advancements by focusing on
interactive storytelling. The findings of this study could inform educators and policymakers
