I personally used this summary to pass my pre-master's in with an 8.0. The summary consists the key concepts of all the chapters that you will receive during the entire length of the pre-master (book: Corporate Finance, Global Edition). Therefore, you can use this summary to study for both the midterm, final, and resit! In this summary I make use of examples for every concept. This helped me a lot to understand all the information better and faster. Overview of chapters included, BLOCK 1: (3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 28, 30) BLOCK 2: (14, 15, 16, 20, 21). (Chapter 23 and 24 have repetitive information and are barely asked about during the exams. Therefore I didn't include them in this summary. My advice is to read through these chapters briefly.) Chapter 5 - Interest Rates

Effective annual rate (EAR): is the actual amount of interest that will be earned at the end of one
year.

Annual Percentage Rate (APR): is the amount of simple interest earned in one year, without the
effect of compounding.

Example:
Suppose that JP Morgan advertises savings accounts with an interest rate of “6% APR with monthly
compounding.” In this case, you will earn 6%/12 = 0,5% every month. So, an APR with monthly
compounding is actually a monthly interest rate, rather than an annual interest rate.
Because this interest compounds every month, you will earn:

$1 ∗ (1 + 0,005)12 = $1,061678

Thus, the effective annual rate (EAR) is 6,1678%.
