, QUESTION 1
1.1. A responsible citizen plays a crucial role in the community by actively
contributing to the wellbeing of society. This can be demonstrated through
acts of kindness, volunteer work, and civic engagement. In a mathematics
classroom, these ideas can be introduced by incorporating real-life examples
and projects that highlight the practical applications of mathematics in solving
community issues. For instance, students can work on projects that involve
analyzing data related to local social or environmental problems, such as
poverty rates, pollution levels, or access to education. By engaging in such
projects, students not only learn the relevance of mathematics in addressing
real-world challenges but also develop a sense of responsibility towards their
community by using their skills to make a positive impact. This approach
fosters a deeper understanding of the role of responsible citizens in creating a
better society.
1.2. Fraction of the world's population suffering from hunger and grossly
inadequate nutrition = 13/100. Roughly speaking, we can say that for every 8
people in the world, 1 of these people is hungry. (Since 13% is close to 1/8 or
0.125).

a) According to the World Health Organization, 3 million deaths occur each
year due to physical inactivity. The world population is estimated to be around
7.8 billion people. It is estimated that in 2019, there were 4.4 billion active
internet users worldwide.

b) Story: Chris loved playing video games and spent most of his free time on
his phone. His mom was concerned that he was not getting enough exercise
and encouraged him to start playing sports with his friends. Chris wasn't
interested and would always make excuses. One day, his mom showed him a
statistic that 3 million deaths occur each year due to physical inactivity. This
got Chris thinking about the importance of staying active and he decided to
start playing basketball with his friends.
