3 steps of medication administration Questions and Answers Graded A How to remember the 8 rights of giving medications - ANS- Please = Patient Make = Medication Drinks = Dose Really = Route Tasty/Fast = Time/Frequency Rebecca = Reason Drank = Documentation Rootbeer = Response First Check - ANS- Look at the health care provider orders with MAR with Medication label and verbalize the following points: 1) Right patient, say the patient's name not "right patient" 2) Right medication, verbalize the medication 3) Right dose, verbalize the dose 4) Right route, verbalize how the medication will be taken (ex. po, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, etc.) 5) Right time/frequency 6) Right reason (why is the patient taking this medication?, do you need to look at any labs first?) 7) Right documentation 8) Right response First check considerations - ANS- 1) Check expiration date on label 2) Check the need for clinical parameters 3) Check for the last dose given for PRN medications Second Check * You may put on gloves to prepare medications.
