_____________ wanted to become a dentist. George _____________ was born in South Carolina, but later moved with his mother to Newark, NJ. George _____________'s mom was tough- she paid the bills, never showed signs of struggling, and expected her sons to do well, without promising rewards. George _____________ never had a consistent relationship with his step father because he felt like an outsider that couldn't break into the tight triangle that was his mother, his brother, and himself. He was described as an Uncle, who gave him money from time to time and dropped him off places. George _____________ came home from school one day and found the VCR was stolen and clothes were missing from dresser drawers. He panicked and called his mom, saying they were robbed. However, his mom started laughing, and knew his step father had left them. George _____________ looked up to Shahid Jackson. Jackson used to tell _____________, "When you become a doctor..." which encouraged his dream with positive reinforcement. George _____________ always had food, water, and his bills paid. He did not move around a lot. He accredits this to not feeling the need to find fast cash- such as drug dealing or stealing cars. George _____________ was respected in his neighborhood. Even though he didn't sell drugs or steal cars, people left him alone, and didn't say anything to his face. George _____________ was inspired by his 3rd grade teacher, Miss Johnson, who encouraged college education and learning. She stayed with the students after school to bake cookies, took them to plays, and just wanted her students to learn, which had a monumental impact on __________. George _____________ was the president of the Shakespeare club, which read Shakespeare and took field trips to plays. George _____________'s mother does not know how to read. Sam _____________'s mother cherished his hair and placed his first haircut into the Bible. Sam _____________ had several brothers and sisters. Sam _____________'s father always remained in his life, but not in a way that was consistent and paid the bills. Sam _____________'s parents had a tumultuous marriage that often left him clutching his brother and waiting for the fighting to end. Sam _____________ had to read the mail, make deposits at the bank, and write money orders for bills at 11 years old. Sam _____________'s mother would sweep the streets everyday early in the morning as her contribution to the neighborhood. Sam _____________, at one point, lived in a house with 12 people, all of which did not have a steady income to contribute to bills, food, electricity, etc. His mother refused to turn anyone away, and had an open house policy with family and friends, regardless of not being able to afford it. Sam _____________ stole an icee for the first time from a local corner store, but was immediately caught and threatened with German Shepherds. Sam _____________ was playing outside and accidentally dropped a heavy cinder block onto his foot, smashing it. Sam _____________'s belongings such as the television, stereo system, or anything worth monetary value were often robbed and pawned for drug money. People would walk into his house while they were sleeping and take what they wanted. Sam _____________ played sponge ball with his best friend Noody. Sam _____________'s best friend Noody received a baseball scholarship to FDU, however, his friend wasn't able to make it in college and dropped out because he did not have a proper support system and missed home. Sam _____________ describes the backdrop to his life by talking about a time when a seventh grader stole a car, crashed into a utility pole, and died. Sam _____________ was arrested for stealing a vacuum. Sam _____________ studied martial-arts (kung-fu, karate, etc.) with Reggie to keep himself off of the streets. Sam _____________ used to tell his friends that he cheated on tests instead of accepting his intelligence in order to fit in with his peers. Sam _____________'s favorite teacher was Miss Johnson, who made _____________ love school and inspired him to get a degree and go to college from a young age. George
