As a professional educator discuss in 250 words the strategies that you would implement for improving behaviour in your classroom in
order to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning. (20 marks)

In any general and or typical class of young pupils and learners there is always a significant level of misbehaviour from some of them. It draws
the need to have a plan and or solution to dealing with these misbehaviours and creating a conducive environment for progressive and productive
teaching and learning. Sun and Shek (p.2, 2012) highlight that cultures and home backgrounds contribute to the behavioural patterns of any learner
in the classroom. It can thus be said that culture, home setting; where they are exposed to media with all sorts of behaviour as visual content, and
social background both of which are summative aspects of the upbringing of the learner are contributory factors to the behaviour. The authors also
cite that academic performance are correlated to the behavioural patterns of learners suggesting that high achievers in the classroom are more
inclined to good behaviour while those with low performance levels in the same environment are somewhat a challenge to the conduciveness of
the teaching and learning environment (p.3, 2012). It is crucially important to note the Sun’s and Shen’s view of one of the several causes of
misbehaviour in classrooms which is that misbehaviour usually occurs when there is a mismatch between the school and student needs. That is,
exemplified by how a learner who desires to be recognised and belong will purposefully misbehave.

Discussion of Strategy 1
Being a caring teacher offers a supportive factor to the learners who will eventually alter their behaviour due to the willingness of the teacher to
cater for them (Sun & Shek, p.7, 2012). Shedding care towards the leaners can provoke a sense of good conduct and behaviour and thusly
nullifying the occurrence of misbehaviour.
Strategy 2
Punishment.

The frequency and intensity of misbehaviours, such as chatting, sleeping, and out of seat escalate if learners found it fun, or no punishment for
such misbehaviours, or if teachers are not authoritarian enough in controlling the situations (Sun & Shek, p.7, 2012). For an act of unwanted
habits and behaviour, the teacher can utilize negative rewarding such as punishment to create a cause and effect understanding in the minds of
the learner to eventually disdain misbehaviour.

Character Education

Sun and Shek (p.7, 2012) found that character education can promote psychosocial competencies. This highlights that teaching and educating
learners about good character and imparting knowledge of the consequences of misbehaviour would ideally help in changing behaviour towards
