Hyper realism in the film created a suspension of disbelief. a lot of marketing went into this film the massive success of this film led to more confidence in Walt and he begins to push himself and company more. Early Merchandising - Still in the process of growing, Disney was still distributing through other companies such as United Artists - They started dabbling in merchandising and creating toys that went along with the shorts coming out. - Keep tight reins on their licensing agreements Strike at Disney - 1941 - the animators became very dissatisfied with the structure of the company especially with the imbalance of salaries and when bonuses were given out and to whom - Women mostly populated the recoloring department - Unionizing was very popular throughout the 30s - The company had its own union - "Uncle Walt" believed in hard work and wanted everyone to be a big family and was very much about control - Art Babbitt challenged Disney about the control, fires him and the strike was created. Babbitt was very skilled and created Goofy but was fired for "betraying" Disney.
