Effective method for addressing underachievement in gifted students offering choice-based learning to increase motivation to learn. Giving students choices are a powerful learning motivator. If they get to pick something, they are more likely to follow through. They have more stake in their learning. Heterogeneous classroom is a type of distribution of students among various classrooms of a certain grade within a school. In this method, children of approximately the same age are placed in different classrooms in order to create a relatively even distribution of students of different abilities as well as different educational and emotional needs. Gifted children will be scattered throughout the various grade level classrooms, rather than all together in one classroom. Curriculum compacting Curriculum compacting is a technique for differentiating instruction that allows teachers to make adjustments to curriculum for students who have already mastered the material to be learned, replacing content students know with new content, enrichment options, or other activities. Cluster grouping research-based approach of intentionally grouping students according to their strengths and needs in a mixed ability classroom. This model is proven to improve teaching, learning and achievement in all students. Virtual school program A virtual school program would allow the student to take the advanced chemistry class from school using technology. The student's gifted teacher could serve as the facilitator and help the student manage the process and deadlines. Portfolio as GT assessment A portfolio can measure what a standardized test cannot. A portfolio allows a student to demonstrate learning through performance-based assessments, which can provide additional information that a standardized test cannot. A portfolio can show more complex thought processes, such as synthesis and analysis through writing and art. Gifted students in heterogeneous groups the gifted students should participate in heterogeneous groups because they are seen as friendlier and better leaders, which boosts their social-emotional outlook and self-esteem. Individually administered, the RIAS includes a conormed, supplemental measure of memory and is ideal for use in both educational and clinical settings.Features and benefits Assesses both verbal and nonverbal intelligence. Verbal intelligence is assessed by measuring verbal problem solving and verbal reasoning where acquired knowledge and skills are important; nonverbal intelligence is assessed by measuring reasoning and spatial ability using novel situations and stimuli that are predominantly nonverbal.Includes a quick memory assessment. The RIAS provides a basic, overall measure of short-term memory skills (e.g., working memory, short-term memory, learning); measures recall in the verbal domain; and evaluates the ability to recall pictorial stimuli.Fast. Administration of the four intelligence subtests takes approximately 20-25 minutes; administering the memory assessment adds only 10 minutes. Screening version is available. Derived from the RIAS, the Reynolds Intellectual Screening Test™ (RIST™)consists of one verbal subtest and one nonverbal subtest. This brief screening measure takes only 10 minutes to administer and helps to quickly identify individuals who need a more comprehensive intellectual assessment or an intellectual reevaluation.
