Ethical Leadership- C206 Task 3 Western Governors
University April latest update A1. Corporate Social Responsibility
By reviewing Walmart’s Code of Ethics , it is apparent that Walmart is a socially responsibly organization, its Corporate Social Responsibility is covered through the
following areas:
•Ethical Labor Practices
•Discrimination and Harassment Prevention
•Product and Food Safety
•Environmental Responsibility
•Health and Safety in the Workplace
•Community Relations
Walmart has provided its employees with a clear code of ethics that includes all necessary information needed to guide all employees on the ethical behavior expected by them as part of Walmart Corporation. In addition to that, Walmart’s Code of Ethics provides employees with instructions to report any unethical or illegal behavior, they are encouraged to do that by having non-retaliation policy in place to protect employees who raise a concern. It also includes the disciplinary actions that will be taken against any employee who violates the code
of ethics.
A2. Legal Mandate Compliance Walmart’s Code of Ethics is applied to all of their locations inside and outside
the United States. However, each location is expected to fit the market at which
they are operating by completing a set of policies that is required in that
location.
Walmart’s Code of Ethics clearly covers compliance with legal mandates. It
requires that all employees at different locations follow the law all the time with all their operations. These operations are subject to different laws depending on the location across the world, so employees need to follow the local laws, customs and culture of local location at which they are operating.
In case of conflict with local laws in some locations , Walmart’s Global Ethics Division is available to guide the employees how to apply the code of ethics at that location.
Also, in their code of ethics, Walmart declared no tolerance policy for any illegal action, and defined these actions as:
•Insider Trading
•Money Laundering
•Restrictive Trade Practices
•Corruption
A2a. Implications of Noncompliance
