Well-structured HRM2602 Assignment 2 (ANSWERS) Semester 1 2024 - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED. (DETAILED ANSWERS - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED!). ... Question 1 Read the following scenario and then answer questions 1.1 to 1.6: Makhati Logistic Services is a company that was established in Gauteng by two brothers, Thabo and Lwazi, about ten years ago. Their vision was to provide logistic and transport services to people in hard-to-reach areas that larger logistics companies were unwilling to travel to. Since they started this company, they have expanded its branches to various provinces, more recently KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Mpumalanga. Thabo and Lwazi have identified a few employees who aspire to become managers and to be provided with opportunities for promotion. These employees will head the Mpumalanga and KZN branches in six months. To prepare them for this, they will receive training and development at a management training centre to improve their knowledge and skills in their new roles as managers. More specifically, these employees will participate in a team exercise that simulates the conditions that they will face in terms of planning the routes and finances of the branches of a logistics company. These employees will have to attend the financial management meeting as part of their new roles. At this meeting, the employees' union and management will decide on the way forward regarding how to implement the incentive plan for the drivers. In consultation with the drivers, the union wants annual payments based on the profit made by the organisation. However, management believes that the drivers should receive a credit that is paid out on retirement. Other topics to be discussed are annual increases to the medical aid fund that the drivers have joined and changes to the drivers' cell phone contracts. HR will also present the benefits that will be paid out should drivers be injured while driving and the benefit that protects drivers should they become unemployed. Thabo and Lwazi identified a few issues in their Western Cape branch. Several employees reported cases of sexual harassment, which was having an impact on the delivery schedules. One of the company’s goals is to have a safe working environment for all employees. The brothers decided to send employees on a training programme on sexual harassment. A questionnaire was completed by employees before the training commenced and another questionnaire was completed when the training was concluded. Some of the results of the questionnaire showed that the presenter came across as very knowledgeable about the topic. Before the training, employees did not fully understand what sexual harassment was. They were surprised to learn about the various aspects that constitute sexual harassment, as well as the impact that sexual harassment has on people in a company. The employees showed a marked increase in knowledge of a topic they were unaware of before the training. For example, some of the drivers realised that whistling at colleagues or repeatedly asking colleagues out on dates can constitute sexual harassment. During the training, employees who had engaged in subtle harassment in the past felt very sorry that they had unknowingly harassed colleagues and vowed they would not do so again. After the training, employees received a certificate to show they covered the fundamental aspects of sexual harassment. They were very thankful for the training because it helped them stop their actions, which could have had severe repercussions. This training had an immediate impact at Makhathi because there were no more reported cases of sexual harassment. HRM2602/1/2024 ASSESSMENT 02 7 1.1.
