Company Officer - ANSWER-Usually a lieutenant or captain who is in charge of a team of firefighters, both on scene and at the station. The company officer is responsible for firefighting strategy, safety of personnel, and the overall activities of the fire fighter on their apparatus. Safety Officer (ISO) - ANSWER-The safety officer watches the overall operation for unsafe practices. He or she has the authority to halt any firefighting activity, allowing the activity to resume only when it can be done safely and correctly. The senior ranking officer may act as safety officer until the appointed safety officer arrives or until another officer is delegated those duties. Training Officer - ANSWER-The training officer is responsible for updating the training of current fire fighters and for training new firefighers. He or she must be aware of the most current techniques of firefighting and EMS. Incident Commander (IC) - ANSWER-The incident commander is the individual who is responsible for the management of all incident operations. This position focuses on the overall strategy of the incident and is often assumed by the battalion/district chief. Fire Marshal/Fire Inspector/Fire Investigator - ANSWER-The fire marshal inspects businesses and enforces public safety laws and fire codes.
