A judgement with regards to the absorptive capacity of Netcare and the
meaning of absorptive capacity
According to Venter and Botha (2022: 265), the ability of an organisation to perceive
the importance of fresh, outside information, absorb it, and apply it to solving
business issues is known as absorptive capacity. As with all resources and
capabilities, absorptive capacity is a strategic ability that varies from organisation to
organisation (Venter and Botha 2022: 265). As a result, some have a higher
absorptive capacity than others and can, therefore, learn new information much
more quickly, adapt to their surroundings more quickly, or innovate (Venter and
Botha 2022: 265).
Four dimensions that determine the absorptive capacity of an organisation
1. Acquisition of external information: This speaks to the organisation's capacity to
gather pertinent data from its surrounding environment (Venter and Botha 2022:
265). Their prevailing management rationale may place restrictions on this, as
information searches are typically confined to what managers deem pertinent
(Venter and Botha 2022: 265). Acquiring information quickly is crucial; the more
quickly and of higher quality the information is obtained, the more likely it is that
the organisation will be able to use it to its advantage (Venter and Botha 2022:
265).
2. Assimilation of acquired information: The ability of the organisation to evaluate
and interpret the information it has received is referred to as assimilation of
information (Venter and Botha 2022: 265). It's critical to be able to exchange
