Must complete 60 hours in the state you wish to be certified. Local anesthesia The course must include a minimum of 30 hours of didactic instruction and 30 hours of clinical experience and instruction in 1. Theory of pain control 2. Selection of pain control modalities 3. Anatomy 4. Neurophysiology 5. Pharmacology of local anesthetic 6. Pharmacology of vasoconstrictors 7. Psychological aspects of pain control 8. Systematic complications 9 Techniques of maxillary anesthesia 10: techniques of mandibular anesthesia 11. Infection control 12. Medical emergencies involving local anesthetic Local Anesthesia certificate or permit allows a dental hygienist under the direct supervision of a Florida licensed dentist to administer to *Non sedated patients * 18 years of age or older The permit shall be issued by the department of health to a Florida licensed dental hygienist who has completed the appropriate didactic and clinical education and experience as required by section 466.017(5) Dental hygiene certificate administration of local anesthesia is available at or An applicant shall submit the following with the application : 1. $35 fee 2. Certified copy of applicants transcripts that reflect didactic and clinic education & experience **3. A CERTIFIED COPY OF DIPLOMA OR CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE APPLICANTS INSTITUTION, program or school and 4. Proof of acceptable certification in CPR Upon issuance of local anesthesia certificate the hygienist will be referred to as a certified registered dental hygienist under _______ supervision a CRDH May administer local anesthesia in accordance with the following DIRECt - patient must be 18 yrs or older - the patient must not be sedated - the CRDH May administer intro oral block, soft tissue infiltration anesthesia Person exempt from taking Continuing education courses are 1. Surgical procedures involving the oral cavity by a PHYSICIAN OR SURGEON licensed as such under the laws of this state 2. A QUALIFIED ANESTHETIST giving an anesthetic for a dental operation under direct supervision of a licensed dentist 3. Dentists or dental surgeons in the United States Army, Air Force, marines, navy, Public Health Service, coast guard or untied states department of veterans affairs practice of dentistry by licensed dentists of other states or countries at meeting of dental organizations approved by the board while appearing as clinicians 5. Students in Florida schools of dentistry and dental hygiene or dental assistant educational programs, while performing regularly assigned work under the curriculum of such schools 6. Instructors at Florida schools of dentistry or instructors in Florida schools of dental hygiene or dental assistant education programs True or false A student enrolled in school full time during a biennium is exempt from CE True True or false Faculty are exempt from CE if the are part time or full time in an educational setting if they're accredited False Faculty are only expect from CE if they're Full time "Dental hygiene" means The rendering of educational, preventive, and therapeutic dental services and any related extra-oral procedures required in the performance of such services Dental hygienists may be delegated the task of - removing calculus deposits, accretions, and stains from exposed surfaces of the teeth and from the gingival sulcus - performing root planning and curettage - exposing dental X-rays films - applying topical preventive or prophylactic agents Dental hygienist may perform their duties in 1. The office of a licensed dentist 2. In public health programs and institutions of the: DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES, DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE UNDER THE GENERAL SUPERVISION OF A LICENSED DENTIST 3. Health access setting 4 upon a patient of record of a dentist who has been issued a prescription for the services of a dental hygienist which prescription is valid for 2 years unless a shorter length of time is designated by the dentist. "Irremediable tasks" Those INTRA-ORAL treatment tasks which when preformed are IRREVERSIBLE and CREATE UNALTERABLE CHANGES within the oral cavity or contagious structures or which cause an increased risk to the patient Administration of anesthetics other than topical anesthetic is considered to be an Irremediable task "Remediable exams tasks" are INTRA-ORAL treatment task which are REVERSIBLE and DO NOT create unalterable changes within the oral cavity or the contagious structures and which DO NOT cause an increased risk to the patient The board by rule shall designate which tasks are remediable and delegable except that the following are by law found to be remediable and delegable : 1. Taking impressions for study casts 2. Placing periodontal dressing
