Student Number: 5781 4775

1. Relationship between physical education and sport:
 Physical education includes the progress of a student’s physical
ability, strength, flexibility and basic sport skills.
 Physical education takes place in a school setting and helps
develop the learner physically, psychologically and socially.
 Physical education can and will contribute to the shared aims of
education through its activities and supportive behaviour.
 Sport contributes to building human character i.e. it benefits the
biological and psychological development and the character of a
human being.
 Sport contains competition and possesses a definite outcome
that will be determined by physical skill.

2. Tests used to evaluate the child’s posture:
 The main way to evaluate posture is continual subjective
observation. If there is a major change in a learner’s posture, the
educator brings in either a school nurse or the parents to
determine the factors causing the problem.
 If educators are using the simple screening test, they should
consider the side view and rear view plumb line test and posture
test. The chart can be used in various ways, depending on the
interests of the teacher, the pupils age and time availability.
Many teachers complete this test in the classroom.

, 3. Knowledge regarding the structure and functioning of the body is
important to the physical education teacher and coach:
 As a coach and teacher, you should know the structure of the
body and functioning in case of an emergency.
 During sports activities, learners are prone to have injuries even
if precautions are taken.
 As an educator, immediate actions should be taken depending
on the type of injury.
 In an injury, the set procedure STOP (Stop, Talk, Observe,
Prevent) should be enabled you to assess the type of injury and
whether the learner should continue playing.
 With the RICER (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, Referral),
minor injuries can be treated correctly.

4. Integration as it relates to sport:
 Integration is the inclusion of physical education and sport into
other subject to facilitate the process of teaching and learning.
 This integration should be mutually beneficial, although it
should benefit both subjects.
 To combine physical education in the classroom environment,
minor adjustments should be made and basic rules and safety
procedures in place.
 When an educator integrates physical education, they should
take in consideration the type of activity and the types of skills
required.
 Some learners are kinaesthetic learners who learn better through
motor activities.
