(3) Climate Change: South Africa is experiencing the impacts of climate change, including rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as droughts and floods. Water Scarcity: Many regions in South Africa face water scarcity due to a combination of factors, including limited water resources, population growth, inefficient water management practices, and climate variability. Biodiversity Loss: South Africa is home to a rich diversity of plants and animals, but habitat destruction, pollution, poaching, and invasive species threaten many species and ecosystems. 1.1.2 Discuss the implications of the above-mentioned environmental challenges. Increased conflicts and tensions over water resources, particularly in water-stressed regions. Biodiversity Loss: Negative impacts on ecosystem stability and resilience, leading to reduced ecosystem services such as pollination, nutrient cycling, and water purification. Loss of valuable genetic resources and potential future scientific and medical discoveries. Disruption of cultural and spiritual practices tied to biodiversity, affecting the wellbeing of local communities. 1.1.3 Name at least one softwood tree species.
