AMPP view of role of Basic Coating Inspector- restrictions at each level. - "a quality technician whose primary responsibility is to assess & report on the technical aspects of an industrial coating project & its conformance of deviation from the project specification." CIP level 1= ability to undertake basic coating inspection work under the supervision of a competent/qualified coatings inspector. AMPP - Association for Material Protection & Performance purpose of inspection - inspectors help to ensure that coatings are installed correctly &, therefore, able to protect vital assets, equipment, & infrastructure from corrosion. coating inspector - verifies if the coating system being installed, in compliance with the specification's requirements. inspection process - -Plan: review Specs, PDS, SDS. create inspection test plan. -assess &/or Test: observe work performed & test environment. -Verify: check that results are in conformance with spec. -Document: observations, measurements, test data, & report to stakeholder. what should you do if you find discrepancies between the spec & the coating manufacters PDS? - seek clarification from the owners rep during the pre-job conf. primary role of the coating inspector - quality control primary purpose of applying industrial coatings - to prevent or limit contact between a metal substrate & its corrosive sion - the deterioration of a metal or alloy that results from an electrochemical reaction with its environment. Corrosion Cell - Contains the anode, cathode, metallic pathway and electrolyte Anode - the area of the metal surface that corrodes. Cathode - does not corrode. the metal forms negatively charged anions that migrate to the anode through the electrolyte. metallic pathway - Metal connecting an anode to a cathode in a corrosion cell. allows the passage of electrons generated at the anode to the cathode. Electrolyte - conductive medium in which ions are carried from the anode to the cathode. any solution capable of conducting electricity(water) components of the electrochemical cell - all 4 must be present for corrosion to occur. Galvanic Corrosion - Dissimilar metals are physically joined in the presence of an electrolyte. The more active (less stable) metal corrodes
