Unit 20 – Investigating CSR – Assignment 1

Unit 20 – Investigating CSR –
Assignment 1

, Unit 20 – Investigating CSR – Assignment 1

P1: Explain how CSR issues impact on the stakeholders of
businesses

Introduction:
In this first part of the report I am going to explain how CSR issues, mostly environmental issues,
have impacted on the stakeholders of my selected businesses, the businesses I have chosen, are
Tesla and BHP, I will be starting from giving a briefly description of the business background, I will
therefore focus on how CSR issues in both businesses have impacted their stakeholders.
The two businesses I have selected are:
The 1St business is Tesla.
The 2Nd business is BHP.
Tesla: Tesla is a company founded in 2003 with the aim of
manufacturing the most suitable electric cars. Tesla not only
manufactures, but also develops, sells, installs, runs, and
maintains solar and energy storage systems for electric
vehicles and energy storage systems. Electric vehicle design,
manufacture, production, and sales are all included in the
Automotive segment.

BHP: Is an Anglo-Australian multinational dual - listed public
company, working in the following sectors, mining, metals and
petroleum. As previously stated, this is a dual company, which
implies that it is a corporate structure in which two businesses, The
BILLITON, and the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, operate as a
single functioning entity through a formal equalisation agreement.
Billiton, founded on September 29, 1860, and The Broken Hill
Proprietary Company Limited (BHP), formed on July 16, 1885, in the
mining town of Silverton, New South Wales, combined in 2001 to form BHP, one of Australia's
largest businesses by market value.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR): The term "corporate social responsibility"
(CSR) refers to a sort of "self-regulation" that businesses can use to ensure they have a "positive
influence" on society. Corporate social responsibility, also known as CSR, is a business strategy that
encourages companies to conduct their operations in a way that is beneficial to society as well as
the environment. The practise of being environmentally responsible and eco-conscious, promoting
equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace, treating employees with respect, giving back to
the community, and ensuring that business decisions are ethical are some examples of socially
responsible and ethical business practises. CSR is beneficial not just to the company but also to the
image of the brand. It can have a variety of effects on a company; for example, CSR initiatives can
boost employee morale in the workplace and contribute to increased productivity, which affects
the company's profitability. Customer loyalty can be increased by companies who execute social
responsibility initiatives.
