Volunteers Study Guide 2023/2024
Volunteers - answers DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO VOLUNTEER IN THE PROGRAM WITHOUT PROPER CLEARANCE AND A VOLUNTEER PICTURE ID BADGE FROM THE DISTRICT. Volunteers will not be assigned to a school where they are related to a KIN staff member. Volunteers (2) - answers The site director will be notified with the name of a volunteer that has been cleared to come into the program. The volunteer will have completed a criminal background check and received a picture identification badge. The picture ID may be sent to the site director through the pony to be given on the first day of volunteering. Do not allow anyone to start their volunteer hours without that badge. Volunteer (3) - answers The volunteer will call the site director to discuss his/her goals or assignment for the volunteer experience. Volunteer (4) - answers Determine the best day(s) and time(s) for both the director and the volunteer to set up volunteer opportunities. Volunteer (5) - answers Inform the volunteer of the correct check-in and parking procedures for your campus. Volunteer (6) - answers Notify the school office that the volunteer will be coming to the program. Volunteer (7) - answers Site Director will need to fill out the Volunteer/Speaker/Visitor Log on Google Drive anytime they are having someone visit their site. Be Ready - answers Help them feel welcome and part of the program. Be Ready (2) - answers Have a specific task in mind for the volunteer to do or have him/her shadow a staff member upon arrival to the program. Help them know what is expected of them. Be Ready (3) - answers If the volunteer is there for tutoring, explain the procedure (i.e. take the students to another area, work with individuals during homework, etc.). Be Ready (4) - answers Be aware that this volunteer work may be a part of a volunteer's grade. Be aware of any evaluation that will need to be done at the KIN program. Responsibilities & Guidelines of the Volunteer - answers The volunteer is expected to call the site director or the KIN office if he/she will be absent from a scheduled time to volunteer. Responsibilities & Guidelines of the Volunteer (2) - answers Discipline is the responsibility of the KIN staff. Should a volunteer encounter discipline problems with a student, the volunteer should refer the problem to the site director or another member of the staff. Responsibilities & Guidelines of the Volunteer (3) - answers Volunteers are not authorized to take photographs or make sound or video tape recordings. The need to photograph or make sound or video recordings must first be discussed with the director of the KIN program. The director will then contact the parent to discuss the need. If agreement is reached regarding taking photographs or making sound or video recording, a parental release is required. Responsibilities & Guidelines of the Volunteer (4) - answers The volunteer should be strongly encouraged to use appropriate behavior when working with students. a. Students should not sit on the volunteer's lap when reading a story, talking to, or consoling the child. b. Volunteers should have contact with the children in public or semi-public areas only. As with the staff, the volunteer should never be alone with a child. c. No contact should be made off campus. Responsibilities & Guidelines of the Volunteer (5) - answers Clothes, hair color and style, jewelry and accessories and any other factors related to appearance should fall within the limits set for students and staff. Removal - answers Removal of a volunteer from the program is rare. Failure by the volunteer to uphold any policy or standard may result in dismissal from the KIN volunteer activity. Remember - answers The volunteer is coming to the program to accomplish specific objectives. Keep this in mind when giving them work assignments. Help them achieve their goals. Remember (2) - answers Although they are an extra pair of hands, they are not equal to a paid staff person and cannot have the same responsibilities. Please do not use them as a substitute. A STAFF MEMBER MUST ALWAYS BE PRESENT WITH THE VOLUNTEER. Remember (3) - answers Many of them have never worked with children before and may need your guidance. Remember (4) - answers These volunteers could be future employees or customers. Set a good example with dress, procedures, and attitude. Remember (5) - answers Be sure to thank them for the contributions they make. It is hoped that the volunteers will further enhance the KIN program. Remember (6) - answers Appreciation certificates will be ponied to you so please use them to thank your volunteers. Junior Achievement Volunteers - answers Junior Achievement Volunteers will be teaching an economics hands on lesson to a particular grade level. The Director is asked to observe these volunteers interacting with the students. Directors will be given an evaluation form to fill out once the JA volunteer has completed their hours. These students are graded on their performance and Directors play a big part in the grade they are given, so please make sure you are checking in on your JA volunteers. After this evaluation form is filled out, the Director will need to fax this form to the JA Volunteer's instructor. Fax number will be provided by JA volunteer.
