Plan an e-commerce strategy.

E-Commerce Strategy
This is the sitemap

Hosting
Choice of ISP

The ISP stands for Internet Service Provider, it provides access to the internet, registration to domain
names and web hosting. However, researching would have to be done to find the cheapest web
hosting company which has the largest amount of data storage on offer. Another thing, is that it
would have to have a decently good upload speed and download speed to therefore transfer the
data that is received and when the user is using the website, it is not slowed down by the extensive
overload of data being transferred.

In-house or sub-contracted

The developer of the website could make use of using an In house or sub-contracted. Sub contracted
means that the developer would be using an external web server to store the website, hire someone
to do the maintenance of the website, I recommend sub-contracted because it is easier to be able to
manage your website and less stressful. In-house ISP however, means that the developer will be
managing the website by their selves, use a computer to run the website 24/7 etc. I don't
recommend this route because it is a lot more stressful using in-house and of course it is more
expensive overall for the business.

Promotion
Advertising the site

, Eliot Hunter (ID: 16002495) Assignment D Unit 08 E Commerce

To advertise the website, a method the developer could use is the method of advertising it on other
websites. However, this can become very expensive to keep. Another method the developer could
use is to create a Facebook Page/Twitter account or any social media account. However, using the
first method of advertising is that you will likely more get more advertising and therefore more
people will visit the website.

Chat rooms

A method to promote the E-Commerce website is to use Chat rooms to other people that are on the
World Wide Web. When using an online Chat rooms to sell your website to other people, this may
not work as since there is so many other ways to communicate with other people such as phone
calls, text messages etc.

Search engines

Paying for prominence is a good way to get customers and people towards your website. By using
search engine marketing tools for example, paid inclusion, the developer of the website can increase
the web presence of the website and this would therefore increase the business for customers and
the developer. This is something that is commonly used for businesses that want to get maximum
attention from people for the website.

Newsgroups, forums, and message boards

A newsgroup is something that is internet based discussion about any topic. This is a good way to
promote your website as you start off with a topic about the website and then later mentioning the
website towards people. A forum is something like a newsgroup. A message board is something that
can be used for the website and this will get people to give thoughts on the website and how to
improve, and this therefore makes the website better and therefore getting more people attracted to
the website improving business. I recommend using message boards as you get customer’s reviews
and thoughts about the website and making it better.

Banners and Pop-ups

When the business is promoting their website, a simple yet effective idea is banners and pop-ups. It
is a good way of promoting because whenever a potential customer sees the banner/pop-up, it will
more than likely stay inside of their minds gaining some potential interest. When considering
banners or pop-ups, banners will likely be the better choice since banner advisements will be far
nicer to look at, than pop-ups, and this therefore attracts attention because they are easy on the eye
and less annoying than pop-ups. I wouldn’t recommend pop-ups because most users will find them
annoying (especially flashy ones) and irritating. Also, pop-up blockers will not see the advert and thus
losing interest from some people.

Spam

To attract customers to your website, you can use Email Marketing. Email Marketing can be used to
promote small businesses. Since people could potentially subscribe to your business, these
customers will receive the latest offers, services, and deals that the business will do. If the customers
have previously bought something from your website, you can use this information and get the
customers to recommend the website to others who can be interested. I recommend this because it
will get straight to the potential customer and they can more emails with what you have in store for
them.
