1 animal cannot prepare their food by themselves are called
heterotrophic in nature.
2 locomotion= animals move from 1 place to another in
search of food or shelter such a movement is called
locomotion.
3 animals are classified into 2 categories: -
A invertebrate – animals without backbone
This is divided into 8 groups
1 Porifera [pore bearing animals]-
Mostly found in sea very few in fresh water
Fixed to some object
Body is porous
Example sponge
2 cnidaria or Coelenterata [hollow sac-like animals]-
Aquatic animal
Sac like body with 1 opening
Tentacles= mouth surrounded by finger like projection
for catching food and to swim.
The body is symmetrical.
Example- jellyfish, hydra, sea-anemone
3 Platyhelminthes[flatworms]-
Body thin and flattened
Mostly live as parasites in bodies of other animals
Example- tapeworm and liver fluke
, 4 Nematoda[roundworms]
Body rounded and unsegmented
Mostly live as parasites in animals including humans.
roundworm worm in human lives in small intestine it
occurs in children who eat with unwashed hands or
unwashed fruits and vegetables.
5 annelida[segmented worms]
body composed of rings or segments
they have soft moist body wall through which they
breathe
nephridia= these have special organ for excretion.
6 Arthropoda [animals with jointed legs]-
divided in three region- head thorax and abdomen.
Body has jointed legs.
Further divided into 4 parts-
A crustacea-
Many jointed legs
Live in water
Example-crab, shrimps, prawns
B Myriapoda-
Many segments. 1 or 2 pairs of legs on each segment
Centipede, millipede
C Insecta-
Divided into 3 regions- head thorax and abdomen
