, Waaroor gaan die gedig?
What is the poem about?
Die gedig gaan oor ‘n vrou wat nie meer glo in die dinge
waarin sy geglo het as ‘n kind nie (kersvader,
tandemuis, sprokies…) Sy dit die dinge verwerp (reject)
Maar
Dan sê sy, sy is steeds bang en glo in god
, In a nutshell?
• The poem is about a speaker who looks back on her life
and says she now (as a grownup) does not believe in
the things she used to believe in when she was younger
(Father Christmas, tooth Fairy, Princes in fairytales.
• She now believes in science because it has facts and
information that can be proven. Science is now her
religion.
• But… then the poem ends with the speaker admitting
she does check for monsters under her bed and she does
pray to Jesus to save her.
