Cigarette smokingalone has been estimated to cause 443, 000 deaths per year in the United States, includingapproximately 49, 400 deaths attributed to secondhand smoke exposure (King, 2012).Polytobacco use is now very common, especially among youth and young adults.According to (Richardson, 2014) a study was performed to analyze prevalence of tobacco use ofyoung adults ranging from 1-34 years old. The study resulted in Data showing a high prevalenceof tobacco use of both combustible and noncombustible products. 67% of respondents had usedat least 1 tobacco product, this indicates at least a willingness to try tobacco products, whichcould increase vulnerability to more regular use.The high level of poly-use identified in this HEALTH PROMOTION PLAN3study highlights the need to develop effective interventions to help tobacco cessation and educateyoung adults about the harms associated with tobacco products.Health effects associated withtobacco use include heart disease, many types of cancer, pulmonary disease, adversereproductive outcomes, and the exacerbation of multiple chronic health conditions.Analyzing Best Practices for Tobacco CessationSmoking cessation before age 30 is essential to avoiding tobacco-related disease andpremature death (West, 2016). Best practice population-based strategies have been identified fortobacco cessation. The ambulatory care setting provides a key environment to identify tobaccousers and provide them a customized approach for tobacco cessation.
