P2 UNIT 16

How skills in an organization is measured
Every organization must ensure that they keep track of their employees skills and to do this they use a
skills audit. This is important because the employer can make use out f the different skills in the work
force. This also helps to identify if there are any gaps so they know how to improve. A skills audit can
take place during the recruitment stage so that the employer can decide whether the applicant is
suitable for the job role. A skills audit can also take place with already existing employees so that they
can improve over time.

A skills audit can be carried out in many ways in an organization. One example of how a skills audit could
be carried out can be through role play for candidates applying for the role of a sales assistant. This
method can show the employer how the applicant would approach and speak to a customer. This is
helpful for the employer because they can measure the confidence and mannerism that the candidate
has so they can decide whether they are suitable for the job. Another example of how a skills audit
could be carried out could be testing how quickly the candidate can type. This would be useful for
candidates that have to right reports. This is useful for employers to identify who will be the most time
efficient and they can use this as an opportunity to train the candidates that don't type as fast. An
example for someone applying for the role of an accountant could be by giving them a test to sit to test
how quickly they can do the calculations required. This can help employers decide who to hire because
although the qualifications may be there some information can be forgotten overtime and give the
necessary training.

A skills audit is a process where skills are measured by and then having them recorded. A skills audit
would be carried out by measuring they verbal and non verbal communication as well as their physical
capabilities depending on they type of job. At Whitehall the staff would be assessed on how they
communicate with their customers and how they would deal with emergencies. A skills audit helps a
business to identify the skills of their workforce as well as find out what needs improvement as they can
measure what areas they did well in and where they need to improve. The impact that a skills audit
would have on existing staff as it would tell them how to improve their skills which also help the
business as well as the employees themselves.

These are examples of what is included in a skills audit and how they help measure the skills required in
any organization;

Speaking and presenting- This would be measured by assessing employees on PowerPoints. This will
show how they communicate both verbally and non verbally and will show how confident they are at
speaking and presenting in front of an audience.

Understanding and using data analytics- this measures how well the employees deal with the data and
measures how well they can interpret the information.

Customer service- The employer might measure this by making their employees role play scenarios that
are related to dealing with customer complaints as well how to talk to them.
