2.1 General Anatomy of Respiratory System Gross Anatomy-Studying structures that are visible with naked eye ● Right and left lung NOT symmetrical ● Right lung has 3 lobes-Superior, middle, and inferior ● Left lung has 2 lobes-Superior and inferior ● Right lung ○ 2 fissures-Oblique and Horizontal fissure ● Visceral pleura-covers lungs ● Parietal pleura-covers chest wall ● Pleural cavity-made up of air and lubricating fluid, allows lungs to glide on chest wall Respiratory System ● Filtration Portion ○ Nostrils: hairs, cilia, goblet cells (mucus) ○ Trachea and bronchi: cilia and goblet cells ○ All used to filter debris ● Coarse hairs in nose traps large dust particles ● Blood flowing throwing mucosa warms air, air then continues through trachea Conduction System ● Nasal Cavities
