Some ELLs may have specific language learning delays or disabilities. It is important to be able to distinguish language disabilities from normal second language development. Interrupted, Limited, or no formal education (SIFE) - ANS-Many ELLs have not received consistent formal education due to immigration, these students are sometimes referred to as "Students with Interrupted Formal Education" (SIFE). Unique considerations & accommodations must be given to these students as they are at risk academic difficulties and are performing below grade level expectations.
