Some ELLs may have specific language learning delays or disabilities. It is important to be able to distinguish language disabilities from normal second language development. Interrupted, Limited, or no formal education (SIFE) - ANS-Many ELLs have not received consistent formal education due to immigration, these students are sometimes referred to as "Students with Interrupted Formal Education" (SIFE).
