US HISTORY II B exam 2023 with 100% correct answers
Define the term Cold War. In your definition make sure and include the following; totalitarian communism, capitalistic democracies, the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (the Soviet Union/USSR), nuclear weapons and the Korean War. The Cold War was a time period of contention between the United States(who supported capitalistic democracies) and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics(who supported totalitarian communism). It was titled "the Cold War" because the USSR and the USA never directly fought with arms and soldiers. However, they technically fought in the Korean War, by supporting opposing sides of North and South Korea who either shared the value of totalitarian communism with the USSR or capitalistic democracy with the United States. Tensions ran high, as nuclear weapons also got involved, nearly sparking WWIII. The Cold War was resolved diplomatically after the near-disastrous Cuban Missile Crisis. Many Americans have questioned whether fighting the Korean War was worthwhile. What do you think? Why? A few well written sentences will suffice. Fighting the Korean War was dangerous, nor was it America's place to take part in it. South Korea and North Korea had an imbalance in comparative militaries, and yet they still remain separate nations. It's likely if South Korea had fought on it's own(potentially with a better leader that was not installed by America and aligned more with South Korea's ideals), North and South Korea would end up exactly where they are today. For a country that notoriously claimed a position of neutrality during a mass genocide, it's odd that America started participating in smaller wars more often for personal gain when they had previously denied their allies until the last minute. The Korean War should not have been fought in the name of capitalism. If America had to participate in the Korean War, it should have been fought in the name and ideals of South Korean's citizens after being asked by South Korea. The fighting in Korea came to an end in 1953 with the signing of a peace treaty.
