ASSIGNMENT 02

QUESTION 1

1. As a mathematics teacher, the following are some interventions strategies
that I would apply in assisting a child with ADHD and academic challenges
similar to peters.

1) Multisensory teaching - this strategy involves using different
sensory modalities to teach mathematics concepts, such as visual
aids, manipulative and auditory cues. By using multiple sensory
inputs this strategies can help ADHD students like peter to stay
focused during lessons.

Example: use a whiteboard to visually represent mathematical
concepts use manipulatives like blocks or beads to demonstrate.
This can help children like peter to understand maths concepts and
speak clearly and concisely to reinforce auditory learning.

2) Chunking – this strategy involves breaking down complex tasks
into smaller, more manageable parts.

Example: I could break down a mathematics problem into smaller
parts and provide students with instructions for each step of the
process. He will now have a clearer sense of what he/she needs to
do.

3) Positive reinforcement – involves providing positive feedbacks
and rewards when students demonstrate appropriate behaviour or
makes progress in his/her work.

Example: verbal praises, a sticker or extra time for a preferred
activity when he or she completes their work on time. This makes
them stay focused during class.

4) Frequent check-ins – this strategy involves checking in with
students frequently to assess his understanding of the material and
provide feedback on his progress this can help him stay motivated
and engaged in the learning process.

Example: I could ask them to explain his thoughts process when
completing a maths problem, provide him with positive feedback
when he/she completes a task.
