The 2008 Financial Crisis The financial crisis of the years , also branded as the Global financial crisis, was the worst economic crisis since the 1929 global depression damaging many financial institutions globally. The disaster occurred despite the struggles of the United States Department of treasure and the Federal Reserve. The crisis triggered a great recession, which saw house prices drop far lower than the 1929 global depression. The unemployment rate was still up by 9 percent two years after the depression ended. That number does not include those who had given up their search for jobs. The crisis was shortly followed by the European debt crisis beginning with scarcity in Greece in 2009 and the loss of $2 trillion from the global economy (Jónsdóttir et al. 2020).
