Socrates Socrates was born in Athens, Greece, in 469 and lived to 369 BCE; the philosopher's character and way of life influenced early and today's philosophy. The philosopher was an extensively controversial thinker in the native Athens. He was often ridiculed in many plays of comic writers such as ("The Clouds of Aristophanes"), which was made in 423 BCE. Although Socrates never wrote anything, he is portrayed in conversations composed by a small circle of followers such as Xenophon and Plato. To the two individuals, Socrates was a man of insight, self-mastery, integrity, and great argumentative skill (Brickhouse & Nicholas, 56). This essay discusses Socrates' ideas and how they translate into reality.
