Was Darwin Wrong Article Review
Charles Darwin was a phenomenal scientist who spent most of his time gathering evidence
and developing theories, some of which have lived to date. Evolution by natural selection is one
of his life's works on which most of his scientific research revolves around. The theory is about
the origin, adaptation, diversity, and complexity of living creatures. This essay is a review of David
Quammen's article, "Was Darwin Wrong?"
Some people are skeptical and unfamiliar with science and unaware of the extensive
evidence supporting scientific theories. However, unlike other theories, the evolutionary theory is
brilliant although far-reaching to the extent that some find it contemptible, despite the
overwhelming evidence supporting it. Moreover, it seems even more threatening when applied to
the human species, Homo Sapiens. Most orthodox believers of the creation theory, such as the
Christians and Jews, find it disturbing to think that humans originated from the primates, which is
a total contradiction of the story of creation from the book of Genesis. Some Islamic creationists
believe that evolution's Darwinian theory is nothing but lies published by people who dominate
the world system.
According to Quammen (2004), studies and telephone interviews were conducted on
Americans to find out their thoughts on the evolution theory. Surprisingly, 45% of the interviewees
believed that God created the People in their present form about 10000 years ago; evolution had
nothing to do with their current forms. Approximately 37% of the interviewees allowed room for
God, and Darwin's theory claiming that it is the divine who got things started and allowed evolution
to happen as the creation process. Still, there were those convinced that evolution happened
without any divine intervention. Quammen is astonished by the fact that the percentage of non-
believers has remained almost the same in polls conducted from 1982 to 1999. The story of
