Should the U.S. Adopt Direct Democracy?
America's preparedness for direct democracy American constitution founders may have had mixed feelings about direct democracy. Though America is founded on the belief that people are satisfied when the government recognizes their input, the founders were skeptical about giving people the power to control themselves directly. Furthermore, James Madison, the founder of the American constitution, stated that representatives' representation by chosen representatives would be better than people representing themselves. Regular polls show that many Americans do not trust the elected officials. However, evidence indicates that the U.S. may not be ready for direct democracy.
