Saluting or coming at attention for an officer is not a form of humiliation, but for pride. Military customs and courtesies are never a mark of inferiority or servility. Describe how customs and courtesies affect team spirit. - Answer- Cadets strengthen their self-discipline and maintain a positive attitude by habitually and cheerfully rending customs and courtesies. "Customs and courtesies illustrate in a positive way how cadets differ from ordinary youth". Describe the origins of the salute - Answer- When kings ruled, knights wore armor, and courtly manners flourished. When two knights meet, each would raise the visor of his helmet, show his face, and pay proper respect to the other. Knights also saluted with their right hands. The right hand was the sword hand; raising it was a sign of trust. Outline basic rules for rendering common military customs and courtesies. - Answer- When in uniform, cadets salute military officers, CAP senior members, and cadet officers higher in rank than themselves. Salute outdoors, when indoors salute only when formally reporting to an officer. Junior person initiates the salute a fair distance from the senior person such that the senior has time to return the salute. Offer a proper greeting such as "Good morning, ma'am," when exchanging salutes. when in formation, do not salute; the commander salutes for you. When in doubt, salute. Anyone may render a salute at any time if they believe one is warranted. Come to attention when being addressed by an officer. When an officer enters a room the first person to notice says "Room, Attention." Manner of address: Rank and last name, for officers it is sir or ma'am introduce new cadets, help them out, give them advice, tell them what they need to do if they do not understand or did not hear what the NCO or higher ranking officer had said. Describe what usefulness the uniform has as a leadership training tool - Answer- The uniform is a vehicle for learning self-discipline, personal responsibility, and self-respect. To wear the uniform properly, you must pay attention to detail. Make sure every detail on the uniform and the uniform its self is correct. Place your chevrons and insignias correctly where they should be. What length should they be from the collar, are there any loose threads on the uniform, are the pockets buttoned. Explain why the concept of image is important when wearing the uniform. - Answer- Wearing the uniform is a privilege, not a right. CAP is the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary and cadets wear an Air Force-style uniform, there is a special obligation to wear it properly and with pride. One person's conduct reflects on everyone else in the group. You represent not just yourself by all of CAP and the Air Force. Defend the idea that wearing the uniform is a privilege. - Answer- You took an Oath to join the CAP, with one of the phrases saying "Wear my uniform properly". By not following the rules of wearing the uniform properly you break the CAP oath that you swear. When they say wearing the uniform is a privilege and not a right, it is the biggest privilege that you can ever have. It is just like driving a car, driving is a privilege and not a right. If you can not drive responsibly, you will answer to Law enforcement and they can take that privilege of you driving away. Well if you can't wear the uniform properly, there will be consequences. It is not a right to represent the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, it is a privilege. Taking the Oath and obeying everything that CAP stands for earns you that privilege to wear the uniform. Therefore by obeying all of the rules of CAP and taking the oath, you earn you privilege to wear the uniform, PROPERLY. Identify the cadet grade insignia - Answer- Lowest to Highest rank Cadet airman Cadet airman first class Cadet Senior Airman Cadet Staff Sergeant Cadet Technical Sergeant Cadet Master Sergeant Cadet Senior Master Sergeant Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Cadet Second Lieutenant Cadet First Lieutenant Cadet Captain Cadet Major
