Patson Moyo
He is not only the protagonist (main character)
He is also the narrator, the one who tells the story.
Patson is a fourteen and a half year old boy.
Father is Joseph Moyo and his mother died
The reader meets him as an ordinary school-going boy in Bulawayo
(second largest city in Zimbabwe)
But, by the end of the novel, because of all his experiences, Patson is a
very different person: matured, responsible and much wiser.
He suffers a great deal of heartships,which makes him stronger
He make his way to Cape Town,which becomes his permanent home,with
his new family.
Although,at a point it seems like all his dream were lost...
NOTE:
The title of the novel, The Diamond Boy, is not only a reference to
Patson's adventures on the diamond fields of Marange but, on a
figurative level. It also alludes us to the way in which he has
blossomed,grown and been honed into a better version of himself. He
understood the value of the diamonds, desiring them and what they
could do for him but he also came to understand "...that owning these
stones was a responsibility..." (page 231). And he in the end he comes to
understand that he shouldn't let the diamond control him

intelligent, well-spoken and mild-mannered.
However, he is not worldly-wise at all, too trusting and, at times,the
reader may even find that he is a bad judge of character when one
