NR 443 Week 5 Social Media Discussion: Healthcare Policies And Population Health (Graded) Updated 2023
I very much enjoyed reading your post. I agree that research & resources for children with disabilities is a key subject of a community health nurse. Fortunately in my community we have a great school that is set up just first children with disabilities. The school is a wonderful asset to our community. The school is specially designed for children as young as 3 to 4 years of age & they can go until they're 25. They work with them both physically & mentally he. Children who are of age & have the capacity to hold jobs do you work programs set up for them by the school. This gives them an opportunity to go out into the community give back, earn money, & expose the community two children with their disabilities. As well as The teachers & physical therapist & occupational therapist there are specially trained to work with the students. During my nursing school kids rotation, I was able to spend a day there & see how much they change the children's lives. I can't speak enough good things about their program. We're very fortunate to have this. The elderly are a very vulnerable population as their age increases & they begin to worry about what their future holds as far as health issues & financial burdens. This three priorities that I can see when working with this population include: Supporting the patient & their families. Often times families become caregivers to the elderly population, this can be very wearing on every individual involved. It is wearing on the person giving the care because as we all know, providing care can be exhausting, especially when it is 24/7. It is equally hard, I believe, for the individual(s) receiving the care because they do not want to be a burden on their family. It is our job to be available for support & have knowledge of resources that may be helpful in these situations, possibly respite care or even just a social worker to offer assistance. Education - As nurses it is our job to remain knowledgeable & up-to-date on the most current information so that we can educate our patients. Elderly patients may need more education & may require more than meeting before really understanding what is being taught. I believe it is important for us to teach them & have them remain as independent as possible. This helps them keep a higher self-esteem of themselves & may prevent them falling to certain chronic illness. Encouragement of emerging healthcare workers to enter into the field of geriatrics. This a field of nursing that is going to just continue to grow & it is essential that we have the help & support necessary to care for this population. Nurses need to educate & encourage new nurses to explore this population & the areas of employment that they could venture into to continue to support & help the people of this vulnerable population. As a fast growing segment of the population, this is an important patient & community population to address. By 2030, over 70 million Americans will be considered elderly & by 2050 it will raise to 89 million (CDC, 2013). The following is an interesting research journal article that addresses ethical concerns of elderly population.
