BenzTROPINE
● Anti-Cholinergic- we use this this drug for Parkinson’s (COGENTIN)
● Side Effects to anti-cholinergic- makes everything dry, this occurs when the muscarinic
receptors are blocked
o Urinary retention and develop a UTI
o Tachycardia
o Dry-mouth
Anti-Cholinergic Nursing Interventions if they were to have some of the side effects-
● Foley Catheter
● Bladder Scan
● EKG
● Monitor blood pressure
● Cant encourage water because it will cause gastric distention
o Mints or gum to help with the dry mouth
BenzoDIAZEPINE’S-How do they work?
● Sustain GABA in the body (suppress the CNS)
o GABA- a chemical that we produce internally that calms our neurons
Sympathomimetics (Catecholamines)—What do they do?
● Adrenaline and Nor-Epinephrine
● Increase heart rate
● Trigger fight or flight
o What happens to our air ways? They open up (better bronchodilation) ALBUTEROL
(DILATE BRONCHIOLES)
ANTIDONE FOR OPIATES? NALOXONE (NARCAN)
Explain how to put on a Scopolamine Patch? and why do we use it?
It goes behind the ear to dry the secretions.
If we have to change what would we do? Wear gloves and alternate sides with a new one
Morphine-OPIOID
What do we have to watch when we administer it?
Respirations When would you hold it? When the respirations
are less than 10
● O2 Saturation- hold when it drops below 90%
What is the Antidote for BenzoDIAZEPINES? FLUMAZENIL
MAJOR SIDE EFFECTS OF PHENYTOIN (ANTI-EPILEPTIC)
● GINGIVIVAL HYPERPLASIA (OVERGROWTH OF GUM TISSUE AROUND TEETH)
