ASSIGNMENT 3
SEMESTER 1
2023

, Q1
Airline Alliances Airline alliances are cooperative agreements between airlines that allow
them to expand their global reach and improve their networks by adding more destinations
without having to fly to all locations themselves. These alliances offer passengers access to
more destinations, improved frequencies and schedules, better connectivity, and a seamless
travel experience. . These alliances involve the sharing of resources, such as code-sharing,
frequent flyer programs, airport lounges, and coordinated schedules. The three major airline
alliances are Star Alliance, One World, and Sky Team. These alliances allow airlines to expand
their network and provide more destinations to their passengers.

These alliances offer several benefits to passengers, including access to a larger network of
destinations, more flight options, smoother connections, and shared airport lounges.
Additionally, passengers can earn and redeem frequent flyer miles across different airlines
within the same alliance.

For instance, Star Alliance, which is the largest airline alliance globally, has 26 member
airlines such as Air Canada, Lufthansa, and United Airlines, and offers its customers access to
over 1,300 destinations worldwide. One World, another major airline alliance, comprises 14
airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, and Cathay Pacific, and provides its
passengers access to more than 1,000 destinations across 170 countries. SkyTeam, the third-
largest airline alliance, has 19 member airlines, including Delta Air Lines, Air France, and
Korean Air, and provides its customers access to over 1,150 destinations in more than 175
